Building in Silence: Why You Must Keep Going When No One Believes in Your Dream
There’s a dream burning inside you right now. You feel the discomfort because you know exactly what God (or your inner calling) has placed in your heart, the things you are meant to do. Yet, you are not doing them fully. Why? Often, it’s because the people around you don’t believe in you. Your parents, siblings, family, classmates, neighbors, and community — they are not convinced. And honestly, it’s not entirely their fault. They haven’t seen any results yet. Just like a pregnancy in the early months, no one can tell what’s growing inside. The baby (your vision) is forming quietly, but the external signs aren’t visible. This season feels deeply uncomfortable and lonely. Most people thrive on applause and validation, but right now, there’s none. Instead, you hear constant doubts: “Are you sure this is possible?” “Nothing good can come from that idea.” When you step into the online space — posting your first video with zero likes or views, launching an Etsy shop, writing your first book, or starting a digital business — no one in your environment may understand or support what you are doing. You might even start doubting yourself. I know this feeling very well. When I began building online, there was no one around me to model or copy. I put in countless hours with very little to show for it. Discouragement is normal. The only fuel that will keep you going is that deep, clear conviction in your spirit: This is exactly what I’m supposed to be doing. The Hidden Growth Phase
Think about it: In the womb, the first months show no visible progress to outsiders. The same applies to your dream. You’re building in silence — late nights, disciplined hours when no one sees or cheers. Results aren’t immediate, and support is scarce. Here’s the reality backed by data: Starting an online or e-commerce business is tough. Various reports indicate that a high percentage of new online ventures struggle early on, with some estimates suggesting up to 70–90% of e-commerce startups face significant challenges or failure within the first year due to factors like lack of visibility, marketing issues, or cash flow. General new business statistics from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics show that about 20% of new businesses don’t survive their first year, with the rate climbing to nearly 50% by year five. Online spaces can feel even more unforgiving because traction often takes consistent, unseen effort. Yet, the potential reward is massive. Global e-commerce sales are projected to reach around $6.9–7.4 trillion in 2026, growing steadily as the internet turns the world into a global village.Visualizing the Journey: Survival vs. Growth
- Year 1: ~80% survival (20% fail) – The “invisible growth” phase where most discouragement hits.
- Year 5: ~50% survival – Many have quit, but persistent builders start seeing traction.
- Beyond: The curve flattens for survivors, with successful online businesses riding the e-commerce growth wave (projected 7–8%+ annual increases in coming years).
The Pain Before the Breakthrough
Labor is painful — contractions, stretching, discomfort. Many give up right before the baby is born. The same happens with dreams. That moment of intense pain, when results seem absent and discouragement peaks, is often when your breakthrough is closest. Focus on the vision ahead: financial freedom, the legacy you’re building, the impact you will have. When you fix your eyes there, the current pain fades. A woman in labor doesn’t quit because she knows the joy coming.Real Stories of Persistence
Jack Ma, founder of Alibaba, embodies this. He failed his college entrance exams multiple times, was rejected from 30 jobs (including being the only one turned down out of 24 applicants at KFC), and faced rejection from Harvard 10 times. When starting Alibaba in 1999, China lacked widespread credit cards or trust systems for online transactions, yet he built with 17 friends in his apartment. No one believed initially, but his persistence created a global empire that has impacted millions. Countless others — founders, creators, authors — had their “night season” of silence and tears. They built when no one applauded. Then results came: money, visibility, applause. Suddenly, the doubters wanted to know, “How did you do it?”Don’t Wait for Validation
You don’t need permission or support to start. Post that video, launch the shop, write the pages. Build in the sacred silence. Remain disciplined. Encourage yourself because you know where you’re going. I have been working on my book, A Fresh Start, sharing my journey from doubt and struggle (starting from ground zero, or “F2”) to building financial freedom online. It’s a life-transforming story of not giving up on myself. Watch out for its release soon. If you are feeling alone, discouraged, or forgotten right now — you’re actually being formed. Those unseen hours are shaping something powerful.Action Step: Comment below: “I’m not giving up on myself.” Then commit to one small step today toward your dream. The internet has democratized opportunity. From any country, with persistence, you can create the life spoken into you. Most people quit too early. Be the one who builds through the discomfort. You carry a destiny. It’s time to give birth. Stretch, push, and keep going. The applause and freedom come after the silent season. You’ve got this. I believe in the dream inside you, even if no one else sees it yet.
